Special Episode 3 (Part A): Converting MS WORD documents into PDF format (using Nitro PDF)

What we will learn today: How to convert MS WORD files into PDF format (using Nitro PDF).

Why this: PDF format is the standard file format when you want to send your files over e-mail (generally its smaller in size), it saves the file formatting in a better (and easy) way, and it also helps you to save your file from being changed without permission.
What you need to know: Obviously there are many PDF softwares available at the moment, the most popular being the ADOBE PDF series, but in this  episode I will use NITRO PDF, the reasons are:
  • It is not that “heavy” software, you can run it in low-spec computers more easily than ADOBE PRO etc.
  • It is one-in-all sort of software, meaning you can do many things just by using single application; you don’t need separate software for doing different things.
  • It has one very cool feature which I am going to tell you in one of the next episodes =). So stay tuned.
Wait, before going any further, first install NITRO PDF, now you buy it or use the cracked version, it’s up to you (My advice is to always opt for original software). For those who don’t want to use NITRO, don’t worry I will also tell you how to do it through ADOBE PDF.

How to do it:
  • (Part A) If you have Nitro PDF
    • FIRST METHOD (Convert through MS Word):
      • Open the MS Word file (you want to convert into PDF format) using MS Word software
      • Click on "File" Tab (If you are using MS Office 2007 version, you need to click on the round office button at the top-left corner instead if the "File" tab.). Now, click on "Print"
      • In the tab that opens, go to the "Printer" option, and select "NITRO PDF CREATOR" (it may be NITRO PDF CREATOR 'X'...where X can be any number)

      • After selecting the printer, click on the big white button with "Print" written on it. (Keep the 'Copies' = 1). Now a new dialog box "Create PDF" will open

      • Select the place you want to save the new PDF file, choose an appropriate name, select if you want to open the file as soon as it is ready, click on “Create”, and in some moments your newly converted PDF file is ready to use. Simple as you like it!
    • SECOND METHOD (If Nitro PDF Creator does not show up in Printers’ list):
      • Open Nitro PDF
      • In the "Home" tab, in the 'tools' section, click on the "PDF" besides "Combine". From the dropdown, select "From File". A new dialog box "Create PDF Files" will open

      • Click on "Add Files...", in the dialog box that opens, select as many MS Word documents as you want to convert and then click "Open" (Remember that this will NOT combine all the files into a single PDF file, each MS Word file will be converted into a corresponding PDF file.)

      • Here are the options you have to customize the output files:
        • Make PDF files: Through theses options, you can control what will be the file size of the output PDF files. You can not control each file's individual preference in this option
        • Folder: Set these options to configure where each PDF file will be saved. All the options are easy to understand, you can control each PDF file's individual preference here.
        • PDF/A-1b Compliance and Open PDF after creation: PDF/A-1b has the objective of ensuring reliable reproduction of the visual appearance of the document. Select Open PDF option if you want to take a look at the files after conversion is finished.

      • After you have set all the options in the way you want, just click on "Create". Depending upon your selections of above parameters, you will get appropriate notifiers. Tag along and you will have all the MS Word files converted into PDF in just a minute.
What’s next? In the part B of this episode you will learn how to use Adobe PDF Professional to convert MS Word files to PDF files.
